Misinformation Regarding CCHI’s Relationship with NCIHC

It has come to our attention that misinformation and false statements have been circulating about CCHI and our relationship with NCIHC, and I want to provide a few clarifying facts for our community:

The bottom line:
1.  CCHI is independent of the National Council on Interpreting in Health Care (NCIHC). CCHI was not formed by NCIHC and is not run, operated or funded by NCIHC.

2.  CCHI and NCIHC have separate boards, funding, tax exemption, and structure.

3.  CCHI is an official certification commission and has been granted 501(c)(6) status by the IRS. All of CCHI’s sponsors are listed on the CCHI website for public viewing. There are 13 commissioners and 18 advisors of CCHI who represent an array of organizations within the healthcare interpreter and certification communities. Within this group of 31 individuals who will guide CCHI, three also sit on the board of NCIHC—clearly a very small part of CCHI.

4.  CCHI has publicly announced all of its commissioners and advisors and their affiliations. This information is available for anyone to review on this website.
