CCHI Certification

CCHI's first two examinations for healthcare interpreters, the CHI™ and AHI™ examinations, are complete and hundreds have received the nation’s highest credential available to healthcare interpreters and professional recognition of their qualification.  CCHI's goal is to develop a full certification portfolio and test development will never end.  We anticipate releasing the CHI™ examination in a number of languages so there continue to be opportunities for your participation.

Get Involved

We encourage you to get involved and volunteer to help CCHI create a highly valid certification examination – one that your colleagues can trust and support as an enhancement to the quality of health care in the United States. The certification examination includes written and performance (oral) components. Click on this link and tell us in which of the areas below you would like to be involved.

Certification Test Development Committee– CCHI’s test development process adheres to national standards and ensures that the certification test is written by Healthcare Interpreters for Healthcare Interpreters. CCHI’s Certification Test Development Committee oversees the development, construction, and validation of CCHI’s Certification Tests.

Certification Test Item Writers– CCHI’s Certification Test is comprised of a series of test questions also know as test items. Each test item must meet specific criteria to ensure that they are aligned to the test blueprint and are psychometrically sound. Item writers will receive training on how to write valid questions and will be provided reference materials to assist in researching and writing items. While it is helpful to have item writing or test development expertise, it is not required.

Certification Test Item Reviewers– CCHI has established checks and balances to ensure that test items are sound, reliable, and aligned with the CCHI test specifications. Each certification test item that is written is evaluated by Item Reviewers to ensure that they align with the body of knowledge and adhere to the rigorous criteria established for the Certification Test. Item Reviewers determine if an item is returned for editing or advanced to pilot testing.

Certification Test Pilot Testers – Approved test items are compiled into test forms. Test forms are then pilot tested to make sure the items and the form are statistically valid and reliably measure the test specifications. CCHI will need hundreds of healthcare interpreters to participate in the pilot test phase.

Thank you for your participation.
