A national, valid, credible, vendor-neutral certification program for healthcare interpreters
CCHI Certification: On Schedule and On Target!
CCHI Commissioners were in session this month in Chicago to select a test development company and review policies and procedures for CCHI's certification examination. Six national test development companies submitted proposals to assist CCHI and the high quality of expertise and array of experiences of each company made the final decision challenging.
CCHI is pleased to announce that Castle Worldwide Inc., has been selected to assist CCHI in developing reliable, content-valid written and performance-based examinations for the professional healthcare interpreter. Castle's unique experience in both healthcare and interpreting, as well as their sound psychometric advice will be of great benefit to CCHI in achieving our objectives.
Castle has been designing, developing, administering, and scoring certification examinations for more than 23 years and has earned a national reputation for excellence in job analysis, examination development, and test administration services. They develop and administer certification and licensure examinations for highly-respected national and international clients, and more than 15 of their clients have achieved NCCA, ANSI, and/or ABNS accreditation.
Dr. James Henderson will oversee Castle's test development team working with CCHI. As executive vice president of Castle Worldwide, Jim has extensive experience in the development and administration of examinations for certification and licensure. Dr. Henderson's psychometric expertise is nationally recognized. He has served as Chair and Psychometrician to the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA), which is the accreditation body of the Institute for Credentialing Excellence (formerly NOCA). He also is a member of ICE's Leadership Council and was a member of ICE's Board of Directors. Currently, he serves on the NCCA Task Force for Standard 16, chairs the ICE Research and Development Committee, and edits the ICE Assessment-Based Certificate Standard. We are honored to have Castle and Dr. Henderson on the CCHI Team!
Your Involvement!
CCHI's march toward our goal to develop and administer a national, valid, credible, vendor-neutral certification program for healthcare interpreters continues at full speed and we want you to stay involved throughout the entire process. Over 150 healthcare interpreters, supervisors and trainers of healthcare interpreters have already come forward and signed up to participate in CCHI's test development process. As the only certification body created by interpreters, for interpreters and the public good, we will involve thousands of interpreters and users of interpreter services in defining their future and the credentials by which they will be known and respected. The need for your leadership and commitment to the entire field of healthcare interpreting has never been greater. You and people like you - the most experienced and respected in healthcare, healthcare interpreting and healthcare certification - form the backbone and brainpower at CCHI. If you have not signed up to get involved, please click here and let us know in which areas you would like to be involved.
National Conferences
CCHI Commissioners are on the road this year discussing CCHI's Healthcare Interpreter Certification at national conferences and meetings throughout the country. In March, CCHI Commissioners made a presentation at the California Healthcare Interpreting Association's Annual Conference and at the National Hispanic Medical Association's Annual Conference. This spring, we will be presenting at the ATA's Mid-Atlantic Chapter Annual Spring Symposium, NCIHC's Annual Membership Meeting, the Association of Language Companies' Annual Meeting, and the Institute for Diversity in Health Management's National Leadership & Education Conference. Please find us and introduce yourself if you attend one of our presentations. Click here to view our calendar of events.
CCHI is leading the national dialogue on healthcare interpreter certification. The talents and expertise of many interpreters, trainers and interpreter coordinators are critical to ensuring we get it right and we invite everyone to visit the CCHI website regularly for the latest updates.
