A national, valid, credible, vendor-neutral
certification program for healthcare interpreters

CCHI Community Commentary . . . One Voice!
THE Certification for Healthcare Interpreters!

CCHI's JTA Report is posted on the CCHI website for you to read or download to print. Click here to find the Job Task Analysis Survey Overview and Conclusions and follow the process we used to define the knowledge, skills, and abilities of healthcare interpreters. This report is the foundation for CCHI's Certification for Healthcare Interpreters which will be available this fall.

The CCHI Community is growing and nearly 2,000 of your colleagues have joined in the conversation about your profession. The essence of an interpreter's work and value in every healthcare situation is during The Encounter, which is when the patient and provider need the interpreter. We named the new CCHI blog The Encounter and it provides a focal point for the national dialogue on healthcare interpreter experiences in the field and certification. The Encounter, will launch soon and we are looking for members of the CCHI Community who are interested in blogging and writing as a member of the CCHI blogging team. Please click here if you are interested in joining The Encounter blogging team.

Test Development
We've been talking with other certification commissions in the healthcare field (did you realize there are more than 400?) and they confirmed what we've been thinking lately: CCHI is proceeding on the right track without leaving anyone out or shortcutting any steps. They all emphasize this one point: You have to work very hard, every day at communicating, reaching out, and involving everyone who volunteers to make the CCHI certification program a success.

Our test development process is proceeding on time, going as quickly and smoothly as possible. CCHI's Job Task Analysis is complete and the Test Blueprint is finalized. In June, we will begin writing the certification test with subject matter experts from around the country. CCHI's Certification Test is comprised of a series of test questions also know as test items. Each test item must meet specific criteria to ensure that it is aligned to the test blueprint and is psychometrically sound. As we begin this process, expected to take place over the next several months, there are lots of opportunities for your participation. Click here to sign up to participate in the test development process.

So Many Questions and Interest in What Makes CCHI the Preferred Provider for Certification Needs
There are two very useful, instant reference documents CCHI has created and posted on the website to help you swim through hundreds of questions that people have about certification, getting ready for the certification applications and exams coming later this year and what this all means to them, personally, and to the places where they work. One is called Frequently Asked Questions and the other is called Fact Sheet. Both are updated continuously to include the types of comments and questions CCHI gets every day, along with the answers and othe r information interpreters and their employers are actively seeking. Get them, read them completely and share them with others. They will make you smarter and more comfortable about the most important facts about professional credentialing.

It runs less than 4 minutes and the video overview of CCHI Certification's value and benefits for hospitals is available for viewing on CCHI's website. This is a great piece to share with hospital administrators that you know. Click here to view it and then send that exact link--just as you are viewing it, through email, to show it to others. CCHI is leading the national dialogue on healthcare interpreter certification. The talents and expertise of many interpreters, trainers and interpreter coordinators are critical to ensuring we get it right and we invite everyone to visit the CCHI website regularly for the latest updates.
