SponsorsThe Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters (CCHI) is the convener of the national dialogue on healthcare interpreter certification. This dialogue must be led by a neutral entity whose primary interest is the well-being of those in need of interpreting services and without having a financial interest in the outcome.  CCHI is the answer to requests in the field for “one voice, one set of industry-formed and approved standards, and an assurance of competency through an accredited, professional certification program.

CCHI will involve all key stakeholders in the field – interpreters, federal and state policymakers, healthcare providers and language companies. We also have invited developers and owners of existing healthcare or interpreting certification programs to serve as advisors through this process. The involvement of all stakeholders plus certification experts will result in a well-conceived certification process that is respectful of the many cultural and linguistic groups represented in this profession while developing a system that is of rigorous technical quality.

In the coming months, CCHI will initiate a number of Committees to help develop our certification program. CCHI will post information about these Committee and opportunities for you to get involved on our website and via email alerts. In addition, as we proceed with the Job Task Analysis we will invite all members of the interpreting field to participate so that we hear your voice and develop a certification program that reflects your needs.

We will provide regular updates on our website but to get our ongoing alerts and stay up-to-date on our progress, sign-up for our alerts – on the Contact Us page.
